i have finally proved my deeply-held belief that the masses are inherently stupid. if there's a sign three feet high staring them in the face, it's a guarantee that they won't see it and have to ask you where item x is (directly in front of you, motherfuckaaaas!!!). i have resolved to be even more observant than i already am, so as not to accidentally inflict my inherent human stupidity on other hard-working people when i shop.
other than the customers, my job's pretty damn decent. i work right next to the kitchen, and everyone there is super cool and friendly. i've learned a shitload of stuff about food, and now i can actually count change (mostly).
on another note, i'm absolutely euphoric about finally seeing hauru no ugoku shiro (howl's moving castle in english) last saturday!!!! it's miyazaki's latest work, and i've been following its progress on imdb for over a year. i drove up to philly on one of my days off, and saw it at the ritz east. and i wanna go back and see it again. i saw it subbed, which i always like better anyway, because it's fun to hear the original voices (and language, for that matter!). it may not have the depth of spirited away, but it's still the most gorgeous movie i've ever seen. i thought hauru's strength lay in the characterizations, especially those of the minor characters, whose behavior ranged from touching to laugh-out-loud hilarious. the fat little asthmatic dog heen, the animated scarecrow turnip, and even the witch of the waste (who was supposed to be the villain at first), by and large kept the movie interesting. but really all i have to say is miyazaki kicks ass.
