somewhere in the vicinity of cloud nine

just got back from the phantom planet concert, and it was FUCKING INSANE. i have no words...
it was even better than i thought it would be, which is really really saying something.
i got there almost 2 hours early, and i was the 3rd person to get in the doors. i nabbed a front-row spot right away, and actually managed to hang onto it.
at first, i was sad, b/c i was not able to see jason schwartzmann (he's normatively their drummer, and you might remember him from rushmore), b/c he's on hiatus from the band, too busy being a super-important actor dude.
and then they started playing.
and it was insanely amazing.
the lead singer, alex, was fucking hilarious. if you've ever seen donnie darko, he was the annoying dude. he'd just talk to us (the audience!), all casual, and it was great. among many other interesting comments, he said wikipedia was awesome, and the audience smelled intelligent. he did a joke which went, "what do vegan zombies eat?" and then the guitarist went (in a zombie voice) "GRAAAINS!" it was stupid, but still hilarious, for some reason. and at one random point, for no earthly reason, he broke into a verse of "i am the very model of a modern major-general" from gilbert & sullivan's pirates of penzance. he also said woot. needless to say, i would be ecstatic to have his children.
i screamed until i could scream no more, sang along with every song. my ears have that weird ringing thing going on right now, and i can't exactly hear properly. but who the hell cares?
the best part was at the end, when they segued into this amazing phantom of the opera cover, falsetto voices and all. the best part was when the audience sang along. it was soooo funny.
i laughed, i cried, i lost the ability to speak.
i am in a state of complete and total euphoria.
