frakking toasters.

just a few quick thoughts on the bsg season finale, which i thought was so freaking good it was just wonderfully amazing.
baltar got screwed. sure, he didn't get the death penalty, but now that he has his life, he doesn't know what to do with it. personally, i think that he's gonna get shanked in some dark corner of galactica, but that's just me. it's like putting a mouse down in a roomful of really hungry feral cats. and baltar would be the kind of mouse who'll stick his tongue out at them and then realize that he should really be using this time to look for a hole in the wall.

i don't know which cylon reveal surprised me the most. i had a feeling that they weren't actually going to unveil all of the final five. if they did that, there wouldn't be any mystery left for series four (which in my opinion will be the last series, but who knows?). col. tigh surprised me, definitely, but it's a shrewd move on their part, since he's adama's closest buddy. i guess it's easier for me to accept him as a cylon because he murdered his wife. i wanted to see him as less than human for doing that. he's definitely the most repulsive character on the show (to me, anyway) because he's so full of human failings that he's just painful to look at.
...well, now i know that they're not human failings. i felt sorry for tigh because he loved helen so much, but he couldn't forgive her turning traitor to save him. it's gotta be hard to have such a strict personal code, and to be willing to abide by it, no matter what. and then he went to pieces after that, and it was bad all around.
but now i don't know what to think, but i'm pretty sure that i respect tigh. he realized what he was, what they all were, and he decided that he still wanted to be human. "i'm saul tigh, and if i die today, that's the man i want to be." or words to that effect, at least. once they heard that the cylons were attacking the fleet, he gave the other three a dressing-down and told 'em to go do their jobs, goddammit. good on him. it's that personal code again, but i admire him for it.
that aide of roslin's-whatever. she might be nice or whatnot, but i wasn't really paying attention. i'm saddest that the lovely chief tyrol is a cylon. how can he be a toaster? he's like a huggy fuzzy bear and i want to pat him on the head and tell him don't cry, emo cylon! but really, he's an honest, stand-up guy. what's gonna happen to callie?

and what the hell is up with anders being the fourth cylon? how tactical is that? tigh's in with adama, whatshername's got the president, and tyrol's chief petty officer, fer chrissakes. anders?! why anders? he's married to starbuck! he doesn't even do anything! oh well, maybe it'll become clearer in 2008 (aaargh, don't wanna think about how far away s4 is).

and how is "all along the watchtower" the mysterious song they kept hearing? bob dylan's telling them that they're cylons?! (and it is bob dylan, children, hendrix did it better but dylan did it first.) i've heard a coupla good theories on why this is so (why they hear the song, not why it's bob dylan), but i think i'd like to wait and see. the most intriguing theory is that they were hearing a human beacon, and are actually descended from the priests of the algae planet temple, and have a link to earth encoded in their DNA. true? i still like the idea.
...and i'm not saying it's not a good song, cos it is, and i particularly love this version, which isn't actually bob dylan or jimi hendrix. i wanna find it now, but it's like doomsday in that it kicks serious ass and is a special composition that'll be released as part of the show's soundtrack in the months to come (august is what i'm hearing). so, looking forward to that.

and of course the best thing about crossroads pt. 2 is that STARBUCK IS BACK!!!!!! SHE'S NOT DEAD!!!!!!! she's my favorite character and i love her to little teeny-tiny bits! ...but i have a nasty suspicious mind and i just have to be skeptical about this. i ship kara/lee so hard it's not even funny, so i was filled with nervous excitement when he peeled off to investigate the "bogey" and the other ship started doing the swooping maneuvers and whatnot that kara's so damn good at. but then HE LOOKED OVER AND IT WAS HER VIPER AND IT WAS LIKE HOLY SHIT YOU'RE DEAD!!!!! and i was like STARBUCK/APOLLO FO LYFE!!!!
she looks awfully serene for starbuck, tho. so my immediate thought was a) she's a cylon. she definitely got freaking pulverized in that maelstrom, we saw that her viper took serious damage and she lost consciousness. but we have no evidence that she's a cylon. when and how? but then, who woulda guessed tigh and chief, roight? there's a reason cylons are the bad guys, after all.
and then there's b) lee is hallucinating. he's been a civilian, who knows the last time he was in a viper, and we know damn sure he's not infallible. he's so broken up over the loss of kara, and with this sudden cylon attack his brains went to little bits. he shouldn't even be in that viper. we also don't know if galactica was seeing kara's ship on their screens at all. they didn't radio back to apollo to confirm. starbuck suddenly showing up, looking all angelic in her nice viper, going "lee, i've been to earth. and i'm going to show y'all the way," that's a taaad bit suspicious. maybe she's still dead, and only appears to lee. poor lee, he's channeling a dead chick and is gonna come back to galactica pretending to be some sort of prophetic messiah with the path to earth, and they're gonna stick him in the infirmary as soon as they can get his sorry ass back out of the viper he commandeered.
but all the same, i prefer c) kara was right, she wasn't having a nervous breakdown. all those mandalas do mean something, she really did have a mystical destiny to fulfill, and that meant flying into the maelstrom that looked exactly like her mandalas and miraculously escaping death to find earth. she and apollo are gonna go kick some toaster ass together, then they're gonna return triumphantly to galactica and starbuck will march her alive-and-entirely-human ass up to the bridge and tell adama how to get the fleet to earth.

...i don't care if none of this or all of this happens, i just want it to be season four already.
